Exhibition "Scattered", November 8th, 2018.

A hundred or so people came to opening night. There we three of us exhibiting in three different “rooms” -

  • Lesleigh Stewart who paints intriguing minimalist works (slickpic7 on Instagram)

  • Catherine Perkins, a lyrical landscape artist (catherine_perkins_artist on Instagram)

  • and me (see gallery and sold pages)

We all sold a flattering number of paintings throughout the 11 days we exhibited at the Metcalfe Gallery (BIA).

Note: Although selling art work is desirable and very heartening to those of us who bear our souls on canvas, I don’t consider it the true measure of the importance of an artist’s work. Still, in my heart, I thank the people who buy my work because it means I’ve achieved my primary reason for “image” making - communication of ideas and ideals.

The Studio

I paint in an old (1930’s) garage that is a little too small for a modern car to fit (smart cars excepted). It opens onto a carriageway at the back of my home which was once used as a nightcart lane in the old days (before the redoutable Clem Jones sewered Brisbane).

It’s extremely pleasant to paint there, with the doors open and gentle breezes taking the sting out of sweltering summer days. Occasional, passers by will stop for a chat and use the psychedelic armchair for a temporary resting place before they continue on their journey.

All in all, a lovely place to “work”.
